Operating on the market since 1955, Hyundai Group es­tablished the Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd. Branch in 1967, which produced the Ford Cortina, 20M and Granada un­der the Ford trademark in the years 1968-85. In 1974 the first Hyundai Pony hatchback was presented, ente­ring serial production in December 1975. Hyundai won the right to purchase a 51% in Kia and Asia shares in December 1998 and acquired 25% these shares in Kia and Asia in March 1999, firms which were later merged in June. At the end of 1999 Hyundai increased its sha­res in Kia to 39.94%, in 2001 to 46.12%, in 2003 to 47.39% and in 2004 to 45.5%. In the years 2000-04

DaimlerChrysler owned 10.46% of Hyundai Motor Cor­poration shares. Hyundai passenger vehicles are produ­ced in Korea, the USA (since 2005), India (since 1998), Turkey (since 1997) and Egypt (since 1995) as well as assembled in Indonesia (since 1995), Malaysia (since 2001), Taiwan (since 1997), Pakistan (since 1999), Iran (since 2004), Russia (since 2001), Venezuela (since 1996) and Sudan (SKD since 2000 and CKD since 2002). Under license, Hyundai also produces Inokom vehicles (Atos since 2002; Getz since 2004) in Malaysia and Beijing Hyundai (Sonata since 2002; Elantra since 2003; Tucson since 2005), Huatai (Galloper 2000-03; Terracan since 2003) and Jianghuai (Starex since 2001) in China. In 2003 Hyundai produ­ced 2,888,143 passenger vehicles, trucks and buses in 19 countries (under the Hyundai, Beijing Hyundai, Kia, Dongfeng Yueda Kia, Naza, Inokom and Huatai trade­marks), including 1,976,865 vehicles in 12 countries un­der the Hyundai trademark (together with Beijing Hyun­dai, Inokom and Huatai, excluding Jianghuai).
