Svenska Aeroplan company, established in 1937 and producing planes
since 1938,
presented
two small prototype cars in 1947: Saab 92001 and 92002. In December 1949, on the basis of these two vehicles, the
production of
the model 92 was launched, which was part of
the program till 1965. In 1965 the company’s name was changed to Saab AB.
In 1969
Saab AB
and Scania Vabis firms merged, forming Saab Scania AB. Since 1990 half of the newly
arisen company’s shares have belonged to
General Motors, and the remaining 50% - to Saab Scania AB (trucks). In 2000 GM increased their
share in Saab to 100%. Saab vehicles have been produced: in Sweden, Finland (1969-2003), Austria (since 2003), Japan - by
Fuji Heavy
company (since 2004) and the USA (from

- 9-3 Sport Wagon. Plans for the future: 2005 - 9-5 restyling; 2007 - 9-3 restyling (production
in Germany); 2008 - a new 9-5; 2009 - a new 9-5 estate version, a new 9-3. In 2003 there were 130,068 Saab vehicles produced
in
Sweden, Austria and Finland.
