In the years 1928-59 GM assembled in India passenger vehicles and trucks under the Chevrolet brand name. GM and Birl concern (the owner of Hindustan) formed a fifty-fifty alliance - GM India, which since 1999 has been owned by GM. In the years 1996-2003 the company manufactured the Astra I sedan. In 2000 the Indian Corsa sedan made its debut, with an original front and a choice of two engines: 1.4-liter 88 hp or 1.6-liter 92 hp. In 2001 the company introduced the Corsa Swing station wagon with a 1.6-liter 92 hp unit, and in 2003 - the 5-door Corsa Sail hatch with a 1.4-liter 88 hp engine or a 1.6-liter 92 hp plant.
