Peugeot launched in Argentina in 1960 the production of
the model 403. In 1980 they entered intoa partnership with Fiat, forming SEVEL, which in 1982 was taken over by
the Argentinian Grupo Macri. In 1997 Fiat withdrew from SEVEL, and Peugeot bought 15% of SEVEL shares. In 1998 they increased
their
stake to 50%
and in 1999 to 100%. In 2000 the company’s name was changed to Peugeot. In the years 1970-2000 the Peugeot 504 was
manufactured
here, in the years 1992-2001 -the 405 model (made in France between 1987-96), and in the years 1996-2001 -the 306 model. In
1998 the Argentinian
Partner was introduced (1.4-liter 75 hp, HDI 2.0-liter 90 hp, 1.8-liter 90 hp and diesel
1.9-liter 71 hp) and in 1999 the 206 model (1.6-liter 110 hp, 2.0-liter 138 hp, diesel 1.9-liter 70 hp or HDI TD
2.0-liter 90 hp; 175, 195, 210, 161 and 180 km/h, respectively). In March 2004 the company launched the 5-door
307 hatchback with 1.6-liter
110 hp, 2.0-liter 138 hp and HDI 2.0-liter
90 hp engines.
Preparations are being made to start production of the 206 and 307 sedans.
